Hermit Crab Tank Necessities

This is the part of my recommended products page that goes into a few products that aren’t required for your hermit crab’s survival, but instead, make your job as a pet owner much easier.

To make your hermit crab environment look and function much better, I recommend buying an Ameriwood Aquarium Stand, an Exo Terra Screen Cover, and a Hand-Held Mister.

Ameriwood Aquarium Stand

If you need a stand for your 10 or 20-gallon aquarium, I recommend an Ameriwood Aquarium Stand, available on Amazon.com. Not only is it stunning, but it’s also convenient.

I do not personally own an Ameriwood, but I know several pet owners who do. The only reason why I haven’t bought my own is that I already had a spot to display my hermit crabs.

If you already have a good spot for your hermit crabs, this part is completely optional. An Ameriwood is perfect for the new pet owner who just cannot find a place to keep their crabs.

One thing that I’m jealous of my Ameriwood-owning friends is how convenient it is. The stand has plenty of shelf space for holding extra hermit crab shells, their saltwater, etc.

I also recommend this to new crab owners because it can convert from a 10-gallon aquarium stand to a 20-gallon aquarium stand. This is beyond perfect for hermit crab owners, as most move up from a 10 gallon to a 20 gallon when their hermit crabs grow much larger (usually after 2-4 years).

The best reason for owning an Ameriwood is how stunning it is. They come in 4 colors: black oak, dove gray, ivory oak, and rustic oak. I’m telling you, these stands will fit in any style home. Its clean, rustic look is simply beautiful.

Exo Terra Screen Cover

A wire-mesh cover for your hermit crab enclosure is a nice final touch. It does a decent job maintaining a humidity environment and prevents your hermit crabs from escaping, all the while keeping your crabs ventilated.

I recommend buying an Exo Terra Screen Cover. The company makes an affordable, extremely durable lid that hasn’t failed me yet.

If you have a 10-gallon tank, use the 10 Gal Exo Terra Screen Cover, available on Amazon.

With a 20-gallon tank, use the 20-29 Gal Exo Terra Screen Cover, available on Amazon.

You can get away without an Exoterra screen cover, but you’ll have to keep a closer eye on you crabitat’s humidity.

A Spray Bottle / Hand-Held Mister

Almost all hermit crab owners own a hand-held mister. They are essential toward keeping your hermit crab’s environment humid.

I recommend using a new spray bottle to avoid water contamination. I ordered a Tolco Spray Bottle from Amazon and it works very well.

My favorite parts about the product are its strong and sturdy trigger and adjustable knob. I can use it to shift between a fine spray and a fixed stream to make sure every part of my crab’s environment is moist.
